Overview

Medallion TL offers a new and exciting opportunity to provide outstanding high levels of disease control and exceptional long-lasting results from a modern bio-inspired fungicide that offers innovative Contact+ activity.

Fast acting Medallion TL targets turf disease pathogens on the leaf, in the thatch and at the soil surface, offering a valuable opportunity to clean up disease and proven to give long-lasting protection in the cooler months from late autumn to early spring.

Its Contact+ activity works to tackle disease with the fast knockdown of pathogens on the leaf, in the thatch and at the soil surface. This utilises the outstanding fungicidal activity of fludioxonil with maximum efficiency.

On the leaf...
Medallon TL is an extremely effective contact fungicide, providing a shield of protection on the leaf to prevent infection getting in and to stop disease spread. Trials have shown that Medallion TL bonds onto the leaf wax layer, making it rainfast in one hour, ensuring it won't be washed off by rainfall or irrigation while providing long-lasting results.

In the thatch and soil surface...
Research has demonstrated that Medallion targets turf disease pathogens present in the thatch and soil surface. This will significantly reduce the reservoir of infection and the potential risk of disease attack. Tackling disease in the thatch knocks down spore numbers and reduces disease pressure, which can enhance the duration of protection delivered.

The fast knockdown of disease spores on the leaf and in the thatch ensures other Integrated Turf Management practices have the greatest opportunity to work and maintain the best possible turf quality.

Diseases Controlled
Medallion TL is a broad-spectrum turf disease fungicide, specifically approved for the control of:

Fusarium Patch (Microdochium nivale)
Leaf Spot (Drechslera spp.)*
Anthracnose (Colletotrichum graminicola)**

* Qualified minor use recommendation for useful levels of control, based on limited data.
** Reduction.

Areas of Use
Medallion TL is approved for use on all managed amenity turf and amenity grassland, including golf courses, football pitches and other sports turf surfaces.

Timings
Medallion TL is especially suited to providing long-lasting protection in the cooler months from late autumn to early spring. The knockdown of turf disease pathogens in the thatch and soil surface may also prove beneficial prior to any renovation work at other times of the year, which can increase risk and trigger disease infection.

Chemical/Formulation

Medallion TL contains fludioxonil - a long lasting contact fungicide belonging to the phenylpyrrole chemistry group, that provides broad-spectrum activity against a wide range of turf diseases.

Biochemically, fludioxonil inhibits spore germination and growth of germ tubes, stopping fungal growth, at a time when disease spores are most sensitive and before penetration of plant tissue causes leaf damage and spoils surface quality.

When fludioxonil comes into contact with disease spores - on the leaf, in the thatch or soil surface - it disrupts osmoregulation causing the disease pathogen cells to rapidly absorb water, to the point where they explode and are rendered harmless to turf.

Fludioxonil is believed to inhibit transport-associated phosphorylation of glucose, which subsequently results in the inhibition of fungal mycelial growth.

Medallion TL is a suspension concentrate formulation containing 125 g/l of fludioxonil.

Packaging

Medallion TL is supplied in a 3-litre Syngenta S-pac; sufficient to treat one-hectare per can.

How to Use?

Apply Medallion TL at  a rate of three litresper hectare in 125-500 litres water.

For spot treatments, use 30 ml of Medallion TL in 1.25 - five litres of water, to treat an area of 100 square metres.

Application Timing
Medallion TL is recommended for application in a preventative spray programme, starting when conditions become favourable for disease development. Use Medallion as part of an Integrtaed Turf Management disease control programme, utilising management practices which encourage healthy turf and reduce turf stress.

Do not apply when ground is frozen or during drought, or when turf is under heat or moisture stress.

It is recommended that Medallion TL should be used in a fungicide programme alternating with products of different chemical groups and different modes of action, in order to minimise the likelihood of the development of resistance. Applications should be made in accordance with FRAC guidelines for use of phenylpyrrole fungicides.

A maximum of four sprays of Medallion TL per year is permitted, with a minimum interval of 14 days between applications.

Application Techniques
Medallion TL may be applied through all types of spray equipment commonly used for making ground applications, including boom sprayers, pedestrian sprayers and knapsacks. Medallion TL is recommended to be applied in 125-500 litres water/ha with all application methods.

Water volumes at the lower end of the permitted rates may enable operators to to achieve:

Better spray retention on the leaf
Faster work rates to optimise spray timing
Reduced disruption to play from faster spraying

All application equipment should be calibrated before use, including knapsacks. Visit the Art of Application Zone for more information and topical tips.

Make sure the sprayer is clean and set to give an even application on the target at the desired volume. Half fill the spray tank with the required volume of clean water and start agitation. Add the required amount of Medallion TL to the spray tank. Agitate the mixture thoroughly before use and continue agitation during spraying.

Thoroughly wash all spray equipment with water immediately after use.

Wash out containers thoroughly, preferably using an integrated pressure rinsing device, or manually rinse three times. Add washings to the sprayer at the time of filling. Complete filling to the required volume and continue to agitate throughout the spraying operation.

Do not leave the spray liquid in the sprayer for long periods (such as during meal breaks or overnight). Make up only the amount of spray required for immediate use.

Handling

Medallion TL is supplied in the Syngenta S-pac, designed to be simple, safe and secure for handling and operator use.

Only open in cans in an approved area, with sufficient stable surfaces to facilitate safe measuring with minimal risk of spillage. Ideally designate a measuring and filling area where any spillage may be contained.

Measure the required volume of Medallion TL using a measuring jug on a flat surface to give an accurate volume. Replace the S-pac lid if any contents remain.

Store Medallion TL is a designated approved storage area that is frost free.

Worker Safety

Medallion TL has passed all statutory tests for safety to operators and bystanders with regards application and subsequent play on turf surfaces.

The Medallion TL label safety precautions only stipulate that operators wash hands and exposed skin prior to eating and after work. However, as part of the Syngenta Product Stewardship policy, it is recommend that operators wear appropriate clothing - including coveralls and protective gloves - when handling the concentrate.

Refer to ths UK MSDS sheet for full details of handling and safety requirements.

Environmental

Medallion TL has a LERAP B category. As such it qualifies for inclusion within the Local Environmental Risk Assessment for Pesticides (LERAP) Scheme. Before each spraying operation from a horizontal boom sprayer or broadcast air assisted sprayer, either a LERAP must be carried out in accordance with CRD published guidance OR the statutory buffer zone must be maintained. The results of the LERAP must be recorded and kept available for inspection for three years.

As part of the LERAP assessment operators may include the use of drift reducing nozzles, such as the 3*-rated Syngenta Turf Foliar Nozzle, as part of the risk assesment process and adjust buffer zones accordingly.

DO NOT ALLOW DIRECT SPRAY from horizontal boom sprayers to fall within 5 m of the top of the bank of a static or flowing waterbody, unless a Local Environmental Risk Assessment for Pesticides (LERAP) permits a narrower buffer zone, or within 1 m of the top of a ditch which is dry at the time of application. DO NOT ALLOW DIRECT SPRAY from hand-held sprayers to fall within 1 m of the top of the bank of a static or flowing water body. Aim spray away from water. When spraying, aim to prevent drift on to surrounding areas.

Do not contaminate water with the product or its container. Do not clean application equipment near surface water. Avoid contamination via drains from yards and roads.
