John Hayes - Head Groundsman
“We had quite bad Leaf Spot disease across most of the playing surface. Medallion TL controlled the disease very quickly and continued to protect the surface from disease for a number of weeks after application. Disease continued to develop and damage turf on the control areas behind the goal posts that were not treated.”

Davy Cuthbertson - Golf & Estate Manager
Darlington, County Durham DL2 2DU
Davy Cuthbertson at Rockliffe Hall Golf Club in County Durham, reported they applied Medallion TL at the first signs of Fusarium Patch occurring on a number of greens – a sign more widespread infection could occur. The product was easy to apply and appeared to hamper further disease spread in 48 hours.
“Eighteen days of snow cover prevented further assessment. However, once the snow cleared, the existing disease had shown very little activity. The quality of the turf appeared to have improved over this period of snow cover.”

Jim Brown - Course Manager
Leeds, Yorkshire LS26 8HN
In mid-December 2010, DeVere Oulton Hall Golf Course and Estate Manager, Jim Brown, grabbed a thaw in the cold weather as a window of opportunity for fungicide application, under high Fusarium risk conditions.
“Throughout the trial, Medallion TL completely halted the Fusarium, with control witnessed after only 24 hours. This appeared to continue whilst under 200 mm of snow cover and sub-zero conditions. The iprodione trial area saw Fusarium continue to creep in and, with snow thaw, it had become more widespread. The Medallion TL greens stayed checked and controlled.
I was very impressed by the control of the disease present and its performance in such low temperatures.”

Lee Jackson - Head Groundsman
Etihad Stadium Head Groundsman, Lee Jackson, reported exceptional performance with Medallion TL during a period of particularly high disease pressure and bad weather, with over six weeks control and no sign of Leaf Spot disease.
“Particularly bad weather after the Medallion TL application meant we had to use the heating system and lighting rigs, which can trigger Leaf Spot attacks. However, during this time we did not see any disease for six weeks before further preventative treatment.”

“I trialed Medallion TL during the winter last year, applying the product three days before we had snow cover across all of the course! We had some active disease on a couple of greens which had moved on slightly after the snow had cleared, but the treated areas were completely clean.
I will definitely use Medallion TL again – but would use it more as a preventative, due to it's longevity compared to other contacts.”

Royston Golf Club
Ian Coote - Head Greenkeeper
Royston, Hertfordshire SG8 5BG
Royston Golf Club Greenkeeper, Ian Coote, trialled Medallion TL on greens showing the first signs of infection, but he also treated other high risk greens where disease would normally be expected, but was not yet visible.
“Greens treated with Medallion TL at the first signs of Fusarium Patch infection, when we would normally apply a fungicide, quickly stopped disease spread and the surface quality recovered rapidly. But the trial greens treated with Medallion TL before any visible signs stayed disease free right through difficult conditions, when we would normally have expected Fusarium Patch to break out.
As we always want to maintain the best playing surfaces possible, in future we will be looking at preventative applications before any damage occurs.”
Sean Clark, Club Manager and Professional at Royston Golf Club, describes the positive comments on greens quality that he received from both members and visitors as: "quite remarkable." He added:
“The performance of Medallion TL proved exceptional under testing conditions. Despite three weeks of snow, there was no sign of Fusarium six weeks after treatment. The greens are probably in the best condition for many years.
There is no doubt that the treatment has helped this and, with just one application, it has saved us both time and money. We are always looking at ways of improving playability of our putting surfaces to both our members and guests, and will definitely be using Medallion TL again.”

Trials area management
USGA greens; predominantly Poa annua/Bentgrass; cut at 4.5 mm
Trial report
Medallion TL was applied on 25th November when all surfaces had strong growth and no disease present. Greens had received a liquid feed and hardener four days prior to the fungicide treatment.
In the days following treatment, hard frosts occurred for four nights, and then 10 days of snow cover. When the snow receded, visual results on the treated greens were very good and disease free, whereas Fusarium infection had started to occur on untreated surrounds.
On the untreated greens, disease level increased progressively over the winter, from an initial 2% to 5% of surface area. There was a definite migration of Fusarium infection from surrounds onto the collar and first two-feet of the untreated control green.
Further heavy snowfall through December prevented further treatment, yet when the snow melted the trial greens still showed no signs of disease.
On final inspection on 4th January – six weeks after application – the greens treated with Medallion TL had come through the harsh winter period with no signs of disease. The control green had seen a substantial amount of disease on the collars and main playing surface.
Sward density was maintained at a consistent 9/10 throughout the Medallion TL trial period, with good retention of turf quality. On the untreated green, turf quality declined markedly in line with the increased disease levels, from 9/10 at the outset to just 6/10 by early January.
Key learn
Preventative application of Medallion TL when there is no disease present can stop disease coming in under high pressure conditions and maintain turf quality.

Trial report
Medallion TL was applied preventatively, with no signs of Fusarium at the time of application on 23rd March 2011. A tour event booked for mid-April required the highest possible turf quality.
Sward density was maintained at the optimum 10/10 throughout the Medallion TL trial period, from 23rd March through to 9th May – 46 days (7 weeks). No disease was observed even at the end of the trial period.
Turf quality remained unchanged at 9/10 throughout the trial period.
Dry and warm weather throughout April restricted turf growth – with just 3 mm rain recorded.
Key learn
Medallion TL gives the best performance when applied preventatively before visible signs of disease, to maintain optimum turf quality.
Medallion TL gives exceptional long-lasting results during periods of slow or zero turf growth in dry conditions.

Wimbledon AELTC
Neil Stubley - Senior Groundsman
Church Road, Wimbledon SW19 5AE
Wimbledon All England Lawn Tennis Club trialled Medallion TL on some of the championship courts – including all the show courts – as a preventative treatment over the Christmas period.
Senior Groundsman, Neil Stubley, reported visible differences, with signs of disease on courts treated with a straight contact fungicide, compared to completely clean surfaces with Contact+ Medallion TL. He adds that Medallion TL mixed well, with no foaming and was easy to apply with a pedestrian walk-over sprayer.
“Being a high profile venue we can't leave things to chance. Even after the snow we had in London we still had a completely clean sward. A fast-acting fungicide like Medallion TL means we are always in control.”
Medallion TL is now a part of the Wimbledon team's preparations, ready for the Championship fortnight and the 2012 Olympics.

Trial report
Application was considered 24-hours too late, when Fusarium Patch had already broken out and with 20% infection on affected turf during mild conditions. Treatment was applied on 4th November 2010.
Turf was highly susceptible to disease, after hollow coring had been delayed until mid-October, because of playing demands.
Within a week of application, control of a serious outbreak of Fusarium had been achieved.
Key learn
Fusarium Patch disease symptoms can develop very rapidly. Key to maintaining turf quality and optimising Medallion TL performance is to apply during periods of high risk, before visible signs of disease.

Sandy/loam-based greens; predominantly Fescue/Bentgrass; cut at 5.5 mm 3x per week
Trial report
Fungicide applied with significant levels of Fusarium present on 9th November 2010 (10% of turf surface affected). Medallion TL immediately stopped further disease development. Within one week assessment showed significant reduction in the area affected and continual reduction in disease over the trial period.
On the untreated greens, disease level rapidly increased, from an initial 10% to 25% of surface area within two weeks, at the same time as Medallion TL had controlled the disease and the turf was recovering on treated areas.
Medallion TL treatment ensured sward density was maintained and, as disease levels reduced, turf quality started to improve.
On the untreated green, sward density was adversely affected by the increasing level of disease infection, with even greater detrimental effects on turf quality, falling to just 3/10 as disease level reached 25%.
Key learn
Left untreated, Fusarium Patch levels can quickly increase, with corresponding adverse effects on turf quality. Medallion TL effectively stops disease development and can allow turf to recover.
