Contenders Ready - ASOY finalists share Top Tips
The short list of contenders for the prestigious Amenity Sprayer Operator of the Year awards includes four committed dedicated turf professionals, representing both the landscape and sports turf sectors.
The overall winner of the coveted title of Amenity Sprayer Operator of the Year, sponsored by Syngenta and ICL, in association with BASIS, will be announced at BTME 2020 in January.
Announced at this year’s Amenity Forum Conference, held at the Pirelli Stadium Burton, the category winners were:

Jason Garlick - JMG Amenity
1. Maintain detailied records of everything you do
2. Keep up to date with training
3. Have a full set of spraes and back up in case of breakdowns
4. Plan an IPM strategy before any treatments
5. Select the correct product, at thne correct time, to get the correct result
Paul Gater - Caldy Golf Club
1. Make sure you are applying in a safe environment
2. Check weather conditions
3. Get the timing right
4. Select the right nozzles
5. Provide prior notification
And a bonus number 6. Keep your sprayer well maintained
Daniel Lewis - Manchester City
1. Keep hard and soft copies of spraying records
2. Use Google forms to keep records up to date on the fly
3. Place notice boards to communicate to all what has been sprayed and when. Keep the whole team up to date
4. Have a designated sprayer for total weed killer ONLY! Do not use this one for anything else
5. Look after your equipment and it will look after you

1. Accuracy of application is paramount
2. The right pesticides at the right rate for the job
3. The need to avoid weed resistance
4. Environmental safety – you are 100% responsible for what comes out of your sprayer!
